Victoria’s stallion ranks will be strengthened in 2026 with the recent announcements of three high-profile colts. With each offering a distinct mix of performance, pedigree and commercial appeal, Victorian breeders have a compelling choice of options.

Espionage to Lovatsville

Multiple Group-winning juvenile Espionage joins the Lovatsville roster in 2026, bringing with him one of the most desirable profiles for Australian breeders - early speed, elite two-year-old form and a proven commercial pedigree.

A $1million Magic Millions purchase, the son of Zoustar made an immediate impact on debut, winning the G3 1000m Breeders’ Plate before returning in the autumn to claim the G3 ATC Kindergarten Stakes. Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Espionage was regarded as a colt of significant upside before injury curtailed his 3-year-old campaign.

Espionage is by Champion sire Zoustar out of a Street Cry mare, and traces back to Magic Millions winner Military Rose, injecting proven Australian speed influences.

Lovatsville’s Sam White describes him as “a great coup for our farm and for Victoria,” noting his “fabulous Zoustar-styled head,” athleticism and temperament. Gai Waterhouse said, “He was a sensational horse with enormous speed who did everything so easily… and he has such a fabulous temperament, which is so important.”

With strong shareholder support already in place and 50 quality mares committed, Espionage will stand at an introductory fee of $11,000 incl. GST.

Vinrock to Yulong

Yulong Stud will stand Vinrock in 2026, offering breeders access to one of the most accomplished colts of his generation and a rare G1-winning son of I Am Invincible.

As an unbeaten juvenile, the first Australian two-year-old G1 winner for his Champion Sire I Am Invincible, and the first horse in 44 years to capture the VRC & ATC Sires’ double, he brings an exciting profile to the Victorian stallion ranks.

Trainer Matt Laurie was unequivocal in his assessment: “He’s a class horse… he showed so much natural talent. He was unbeaten as a two-year-old, and he’s a hell of a type, so he’s going to be very well-received when he gets to stud.”

Vinrock offers breeders elite two-year-old performance, toughness, and a highly commercial pedigree as a son of I Am Invincible from a Redoute’s Choice mare. With only a handful of G1-winning sons of I Am Invincible currently at stud, his profile is both exclusive and proven.

Yulong’s Chief Operating Officer, Sam Fairgray emphasised his credentials: “Elite performances at two, an outstanding page, and a real physical presence… To win both the VRC and ATC Sires’ Produce races in the same season is so rare and speaks volumes about his class, toughness, and natural ability.”

Vinrock will stand at an introductory fee of $22,000 incl. GST.

Diego Velazquez to Swettenham

Swettenham Stud adds an international dimension to Victoria’s stallion ranks with the arrival of shuttle sire Diego Velazquez (IRE), a G1-winning son of Frankel.

Winner of the prestigious G1 1600m Prix Jacques Le Marois, Diego Velazquez was a high-class, durable performer across multiple seasons, progressing from a dominant debut to victories in the G2 Juvenile Stakes, G3 Meld Stakes and G2 Solonaway Stakes before his G1 breakthrough. The 2.4 million guineas purchase is bred on an exceptional page out of a stakes-winning mare and closely related to multiple Group performers.

For Australian breeders, Diego Velazquez offers a unique combination - he is the only G1-winning son of Frankel standing in Australia, blending elite European miling form with the speed and precocity required locally.

Diego Velazquez will spend the first half of 2026 at the English National Stud, where Toronado also began his career, before heading south to Swettenham Stud for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season.

Swettenham’s Adam Sangster reinforced the significance of his arrival: “As an industry, we have all been waiting for a fast son of Frankel to stand in Australia… we are very selective in who we stand so that breeders can have the greatest chance of a return on investment.”

Diego Velazquez’s service fee will be announced in due course.

Observer to Darley Northwood Park

Dual G1 winner Observer will join Darley’s Victorian roster in 2026. A five-length maiden winner at two, he developed into a four-time Group winner from 1400m to 2500m, highlighted by victories in the G1 Australian Guineas and G1 Victoria Derby.

Observer profiles as the best-performed son of Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) to retire to stud to date. By the world’s highest-rated horse of 2020, Observer offers access to one of the most influential sire lines in the world. He is also out of a full sister to Champion two-year-old and successful sire Pierro.

His profile provides versatility, class, and quality. Notably, he becomes the first Guineas winner from the Dubawi sire line to stand in Australia since Night of Thunder.

Darley’s Head of Stallions, Alastair Pulford, highlighted both his race record and market appeal: “Observer has won the right races, against the right opposition, and brings a pedigree that consistently produces at the highest level. Breeders know better than anyone how thin the market is for elite new locally raced stallions this season.”

Observer will stand at Northwood Park at an introductory fee of $33,000 (incl. GST). He will be joined by Ghaiyyath, who returns to the Southern Hemisphere this upcoming season, at a service fee of $88,000 (incl. GST).
