Spring is Coming, and Victoria's Ready

The end of August brings with it a few things - the closing out of winter, the conclusion of the Victorian Award season and the commencement of the Spring Carnival. We’ve spent the past month celebrating the season successes of the horses and the people of our industry. We again congratulate everyone involved!

As well as our own award winners, we’ve also seen Victorian-bred Station One (Toronado x Alittle Loose) crowned the Victorian Country Racehorse of the Year, while 2026 Champion Victorian Bred Racehorse and Victorian Racehorse of the Year, Half Yours (St Jean x La Gazelle) added a third title to his name, becoming the 2026 Australian Champion Stayer.

Now it’s time for what lies ahead. In paddocks, foals are arriving, and on the track, stars are emerging. We had a recent taste of the forming interstate rivalry between Sydney's Autumn Glow and Victoria's own Sheza Alibi. Let the excitement begin! 

It’s the time of year Victorian breeders get to watch their own graduates step onto the biggest stages in the country - the next wave of two- and three-year-olds announcing themselves, Country Cups, black-type performances and Group 1 winners claiming ultimate victories. 

The VOBIS program also provides an added incentive, rewarding connections of Victorian-bred horses with lucrative bonuses across a range of races throughout the carnival period.
