As the major Australasian yearling sales came to an end there was plenty of exciting racing throughout April. Victorian stallions played their part as they sired the winners of five stakes race winners across Australia including three by Woodside Park’s Rich Enuff, a son of fellow Victorian sire Written Tycoon.
Siren Assault (Rich Enuff x Rebel Assault)
G3 WATC GIMCRACK STAKES - 6th April
Siren Assault, a two-year-old filly by Rich Enuff out of Rebel Assault, secured victory in the G3 WATC Gimcrack Stakes on April 6th. Sold by her breeders Morningside Park Stud for $80,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, she has now two wins from six starts including a victory over subsequent Group 2 winner, Bustling. It was the first of a trio of victors in April for Rich Enuff who continues to go from strength to strength.
Oscar’s Fortune (Rich Enuff x Oscar Award)
G3 ROMA CUP (WFA) - 6th April
Oscar’s Fortune, a three-year-old gelding by Rich Enuff out of Oscar Award, was triumphant in the G3 Roma Cup at Ascot, Western Australia on April 6th. Despite being acquired for a modest $5,500 at the Inglis December Online Sale, he is yet to miss a place from his nine starts, including five victories and over $1million l in prize money. He then followed up this victory with a gallant third in The Quokka behind Overpass and Amelia’s Jewel. It’s a testament to Woodside Park Stud who not only stand the stallion but also bred the exciting young horse.

El Soleado (Toronado x Sunnyvale)
Listed GOLDEN MILE - 13th April
In the Listed Golden Mile on April 13th, El Soleado, a four-year-old gelding by Toronado out of Sunnyvale, secured victory for trainer Robbie Laing. The consistent galloper has now placed in 12 of his 17 starts after being bred by Victoria’s own Kevin and Colleen Bamford at Daisy Hill Stud. Toronado continues to be a strong flagbearer for Victoria, notching up 37 stakes winners in a short career at stud.
Tiger Shark (Rich Enuff x Langoustine)
Listed MICK DITTMAN PLATE - 27th April
Tiger Shark, a three-year-old filly bred by Michael Flannery & Anna Flannery at Springmount in Victoria, Australia, made a statement with her win in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate at Eagle Farm. Sired by Rich Enuff, she becomes his fifth stakes winner this season, which has him ranked 22nd on the Australian Leading Sires Table.

Bustling (Frosted x Bussimiss)
G2 Karrakatta Plate - 20th April
Listed Perth Stakes - 6th April
Bustling, a two-year-old gelding by Frosted out of Bussimiss and bred by Oakland Park Stud took out wide success in April. The experience of his first two starts proved positive as he took two-from-two, winning the Listed Perth Stakes and Group Two Karrakatta Plate. He’s another great example of Victorian-sired horses making their mark in 2YO races across the country.
Sapphire Street (Street Boss x Necklet)
Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic - 27th April
The Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic on April 27th saw Sapphire Street, a three-year-old filly by Street Boss out of Necklet, emerge victorious. Trained by Daniel Morton, the now four-time winner sat three-wide near the rear of the field and charged home to become Street Boss’ 71st individual stakes winner across the globe. This win also becomes the Darley stallion’s seventh Australian stakes winner this season making it his best ever performance, surpassing his previous best of six in 2020/21.
