The 2026 sale season is now in full swing, and the spotlight has firmly turned to Melbourne, as the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale comes to Oaklands Junction on 1-3 March.
A total of 814 lots have been catalogued by 64 individual vendors, of which 37 are Victorian, while four of the 11 first-season sires represent Victoria - Bruckner, Diatonic, Paulele, and Sejardan.
The sale includes 368 VOBIS Sires eligible lots, which also provide eligibility to the Platinum program, with all yearlings on offer also eligible for the Inglis Race Series.
Let’s take a look at a selection from Victorian nurseries:
Five-time leading Premier vendor, Blue Gum Farm, will showcase a strong draft of 35 yearlings, 8 of which are by first-season resident sire Sejardan, who unfortunately died from a sudden injury in November. One such yearling is Lot 86, a bay colt out of the Peintre Celebre (USA) mare, Gosh (Ire), a three-time winner and Group-placed. A half-brother to G3 winner Is It Me, this colt’s pedigree features a strong international standing. He is by a VOBIS Sire and nominated to VOBIS Silver.
Avenel-based Crossley Thoroughbreds are presenting a draft of 23 quality yearlings, headed by Lot 314. This chestnut filly is by Darley Victoria’s Street Boss (USA), out of the Listed Oakbank Stakes winner, Scratchy Lass. He’s already VOBIS Silver nominated and by a VOBIS sires stallion. The family features six-time winner Voracious, and several stakes performers, including Champion Australian Stayer and G1 Melbourne Cup winner, Viewed.
Flinders Park Stud will travel up from the Mornington Peninsula to present eight yearlings, all by strong, commercial stallions. Lot 372 is a filly out of Strata Lady (NZ) (Stratum), by first-season sire Paulele. Standing at Darley VIC, this sire’s progeny are catching the eye of buyers, and his Premier Sale representatives will be no different. This filly is supported by a solid black type family, including Astrodame, Legacy Bound, and Ulmann.
Stalwart Victorian breeders, Gilgai Farm, travel from Nagambie with a team of 19 yearlings, eight of these by Victorian stallions and therefore VOBIS Sires eligible. Their Lot 419 Kermadec (NZ) x Turaath (GB) bay filly is one such horse. She is the first foal from her dam, who was a winner in both Great Britain and Australia, with two of her six wins being at black type level. The versatile global family also includes two-time French G3 winner, Ziria.
Longwood Thoroughbreds continues to turn out impressive drafts, and this Sale installment features 22 yearlings, highlighted again by Victorian-based stallions. Lot 11 is a VOBIS Silver nominated and VOBIS Sires eligible Toronado (Ire) x Di Lusso colt. The dam is a consistent producer, with five of her six foals to race all winners, including multiple Group winner, Contess Vanessa and Group 2-placed Pivot City.
Luke and Mags Anderson from Maluka Thoroughbreds continue to produce high-performing horses and present 18 yearlings in their 2026 Premier draft. With the majority being by Victorian-based sires, Lot 14 Shamus Award x Distrustful is a standout. He is a full-brother to four-time winner and G3 Launceston Cup winner, Distrustful Award. Other Group winners in the family include Casino Prince, Best of Bordeaux, and Prince Fawaz. This colt is VOBIS Silver nominated and VOBIS Sires eligible, also meaning he is eligible for the Platinum bonuses.
Following a successful Magic Millions sale, Ben Cooper’s Merricks Station presents a quality draft of 12 yearlings. Nine of these are by Victorian-based stallions and therefore VOBIS Sires and VOBIS Platinum eligible. Their first to go through the ring will be a Blue Point (Ire) colt, Lot 28. He’s the first foal for the G2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes winner, Elusive Express (NZ), who is also a half-sister to Listed winner Condo’s Express. The family also features black type performers from South Africa, Great Britain, and Italy.
Gary and Helen O'Meara from Hesket’s Miranda Park have prepared 10 yearlings for auction - three fillies and seven colts. Lot 339 is a Bruckner x Silent Mode bay/brown colt, who is both VOBIS Sires and Silver eligible. From the first crop of Bruckner - Widden Victoria’s Group-winning son of Snitzel - this colt’s dam has produced three winners on the track and is closely related to 10-time winner, Britt’s Best.
Inglis Premier regulars, Noorilim Park are bringing a small but mighty contingent to Oaklands Junction. Of their six yearlings, four are by Victorian stallions and therefore VOBIS Sires eligible. Lot 473, a Toronado (Ire) x Anise filly, the page is full of black type winners and names such as Troach, Facile, and Hong Kong Horse of the Year, Fairy King Prawn.
Having presented their first Premier draft in 2025, Penfold Thoroughbreds are back for a second time, offering 13 yearlings. Lot 118 is one of 38 catalogued yearlings by Swettenham Stud’s Toronado, a filly out of Il Diamante (Testa Rossa). This filly is a full-sister to the inaugural VOBIS Showdown winner, Prince of Sussex, who went on to win three black type races in Hong Kong under the name Lucky Express. Black type winners scatter the page, and this filly is by a VOBIS Sires stallion, so her new owners have the opportunity to scoop up the lucrative bonuses the program offers.
As one of Victoria’s more prominent farms, Rosemont Stud is again presenting a large and diverse draft, with 34 entries all sure to attract the attention of buyers at all levels. Lot 349 is the Small Minds colt, by Rosemont’s resident sire Extreme Warrior (VOBIS Sires). He’s VOBIS Silver nominated, as well as eligible for Platinum bonuses. Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds will bring a draft of 13 down the highway from Avenel. Lot 460 is a well-bred colt, out of a Zabeel mare, Zurella (NZ), and by Swettenham Stud’s Toronado. The dam is a two-time G2 winner and Group placed, and this colt is a half-brother to Listed placegetter Designs. Ryan Arnel and the team at Stonehouse Thoroughbreds present a 27-strong draft, with a heavy Victorian influence. One such yearling is Lot 55, a Pierata x Festival Dancer bay colt. He is the first foal for the dam, who won four times, including at G3 level. The strong global pedigree includes Hong Kong Champion Stayer, Collins Street, and German Horse of the Year, Ransom O’War. This year marks Pierata’s first crop for Yulong, so this colt is VOBIS Sires eligible, as well as being VOBIS Silver nominated.
Two Bays Farm from Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula brings Premier buyers a draft of 16 yearlings. Lot 45 is a lovely Rubick x Excelsior Island filly. While Rubick no longer stands in Victoria, he was a VOBIS Sire when this crop was conceived, therefore this filly is VOBIS Sires eligible and VOBIS Silver nominated. The dam is a two-time NZ winner and half-sister to NZ Champion 2YO Warhorse. The pedigree is scattered with other black type winners and performers and will surely be of interest to buyers.
Widden Stud Victoria is another vendor with a large contingent at this Sale, with 30 yearlings under their banner. Lot 194 is a colt out of Listed winner Merriest, by Widden’s resident stallion Russian Camelot. He’s a well-related individual, including a half-brother to G2 WA Guineas placegetter The Merryman, Group performer Semana, and recent 2YO winner, Knightsbridge.
He is by a VOBIS Sire and nominated to VOBIS Silver.
