Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale Preview

The progeny of some of Australasia’s most appealing young stallions are set to take centre stage at Inglis’ Great Southern Weanling Sale at Oaklands Junction on 11 - 12 June.
A total of 430 lots have been catalogued for the sale, and Victoria is again well represented by progeny from proven Victorian sires such as Toronado, Street Boss, Dirty Work, Shamus Award, and Alabama Express, as well as exciting first-season sires Benbatl, Cylinder, Doull, Generation, Gold Trip, King Colorado, Lofty Strike, and Oxley Road.
Recent Victorian-sired and -bred success stories to emerge from this sale include Group 1 winners Streisand and Well Written, and Listed winners Alibaba and Calamari Ring. It is also a proven haven for pinhookers.
214 weanlings are by VOBIS Sires stallions and eligible for entry into the VOBIS Silver and VOBIS Platinum schemes. All lots are also eligible for the $12m Inglis Race Series.
Let’s look at some of the highlights from the catalogue. All lots listed below are by VOBIS Sires stallions and eligible for VOBIS Silver nominations and VOBIS Gold and Platinum upgrades.
Lot 38 - Fierce Impact (JPN) x Kakariko Village (NZ) colt
From the draft of Rushton Park comes Lot 38, a colt by Lovatsville's Fierce Impact. The fourth living foal from his dam Kakariko Village (NZ), this colt is a full brother to 2YO black-type placegetter, Zelia. The pedigree also features numerous Group winners and performers, including Bonham, Banc De Fortune, and Champion 3YO filly, Faint Perfume.
Lot 40 - Cylinder x Katella Bubbles filly
Presented by Lemrac Lodge, Lot 40 is a filly by Darley’s first-season sire Cylinder and hails from an international pedigree. Out of Katella Bubbles, she is a half-sister to the Listed-winning and Group 3-placed sprinter, Champagne Dreams.
Lot 96 - Lofty Strike x Misshiraz filly
Another from Rushton Park, Lot 96 is one of 19 catalogued weanlings from the first crop of Swettenham Stud sire, Lofty Strike. Out of the five-time winning dam Misshiraz, the filly is a half-sister to Group 2-placed Deepour. Of her four other siblings to race, all are also winners.
Lot 103 - Toronado (IRE) x More Bubbles filly
Out of the Burnewang North Pastoral barn, Lot 103 is by Swettenham Stud’s Toronado. The filly is out of a dam to have 2 foals to race, both winners, one of them being On The Bubbles, the winner of the G1 Manawatu Sires' Produce S. and the 2YO Karaka Million. This pedigree has multiple black-type winners throughout the page, including the joint 2021-22 Australian 2YO Colt Champion, Daumier.
Lot 104 - Sejardan x Moreau colt
On account of Leeanne Smith’s Bucklee Farm, Lot 104 is a strong colt by Blue Gum Farm’s ill-fated sire, Sejardan. This colt is a son of the G2-placed Snitzel mare, Moreau, and the page is bursting with impressive global Group performers, including Pinstriped and Noverre.
Lot 134 - Benbatl (GB) x Prairie Star (NZ) filly
Presented by Ponderosa Park, this filly (Lot 134) is by southern-hemisphere first-season sire Benbatl, an internationally performed Group 1 winner. She is out of a black-type-placed High Chaparral mare, Prairie Star. Of her five foals to race, all are winners, with two also black-type performers. Group winners Prairie Flower, Dylan’s Promise, and Marianne are also closely related.
Lot 142 - Oxley Road x Queen Adele colt
One of three catalogued weanlings by Blue Gum Farm’s first-season sire Oxley Road, comes Lot 142. The dam is a two-time winner and Listed-placed Adelaide (GB) mare, and half-sister to the dual Group 1 and $5 The Quokka winner Jigsaw. This colt is her second foal, with plenty of scope and potential on his page.
Lot 158 - Blue Point (IRE) x River Racer filly
One of four lots presented by Merricks Station is Lot 158, a filly by Darley Northwood shuttle sire, Blue Point. Her dam is a Listed winner, and multiple Group-placegetter. Scattered with black type performers, the pedigree is highlighted by versatility and consistency.
Lot 160 - Brazen Beau x Romany Flyer colt
Offered by Springmount is Lot 160, a colt by the 2020-21 Leading NZ 2YO Sire, Darley Northwood’s Brazen Beau. Out of a proven dam, this VOBIS Sires eligible colt is a three-quarter brother to dual Group 3 winner and G1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes placegetter, Invincible Star - just one of the nine winning foals this dam has to her name!
Lot 201 - Pierata x Special Alert filly
Another weanling from the Springmount draft is Lot 201, a filly by Yulong Stud’s Pierata. Out of a Not A Single Doubt mare who is a G3 winner, this filly is also related to Truly Great, the winner of the G1 WATC Kingston Town Classic, as well as a number of other Group performers.
Lot 217 - Russian Camelot (IRE) x Summerbliss colt
Gilgai Farm presents Lot 217, a well-bred colt by Widden Stud’s Russian Camelot. The dam was a multiple Group placegetter, including a third in the G1 VRC Oaks, and produced black-type performer Real Charisma, the dam of G1 winner Kimochi and Listed placegetter, Hole In One.
Lot 247 - Dirty Work x Tranquil Harmony colt
This colt on offer by Ultra Thoroughbred (Lot 247) is by Dirty Work, a sire who produced 2YO stake winners Never Ordinary and Do I Feel Lucky. The dam has had two foals to race, both winners. This family also includes prominent black-type winning horses, including Charmed Harmony, Reward For Effort, and G1 Golden Slipper winner Overreach.
Lot 306 - Cylinder x Anise colt
Offered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds is Lot 306, a colt by first-season sire Cylinder. Coming out of an impressive family, the colt’s dam Anise won the G3 ATC Kindergarten S. at two, as well as placing in eight other black type events and she’s produced three winning foals to date. HK Champion Fairy King Prawn and dual G1 winner Cosmic Endeavour also feature on the page.
Lot 325 - Toronado (IRE) x Barbie's Fox filly
Lot 325 is by Champion Victorian Sire Toronado (IRE), and the first foal out of a Foxwedge mare Barbie’s Fox. The dam is a 6-time winner with the Listed ATC Winter Challenge being one of them. One of 31 weanlings offered by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds this sale, this filly has strong sprinting and middle-distance black-type performers throughout her page.
Lot 343 Doull x Cailin Miss colt
This colt (Lot 343) is one of six first-crop weanlings on offer at this sale by Rosemont Stud’s G2-winning sire Doull. The dam is a two-time winner, including the Listed SAJC Oaklands Plate, and all her four foals are winners. This colt is a half-brother to G3 winner La Mexicana while numerous other sprinting types feature on the page.
Lot 388 - Shalaa (IRE) x Dual Star colt
On account of Blue Gum Farm comes Lot 388, a colt out of the Starcraft mare, Dual Star. The colt is a full brother to G3 winner, Roselyn’s Star, as well as having three other winning siblings. The family also includes G1 Blue Diamond winner, True Jewels. Part of the VOBIS Sires program, Shalaa recently celebrated his 24th Stakes winner.
Lot 407 - Toronado (IRE) x Fleetwood Maca (NZ) filly
One of eleven weanlings in the Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds draft is Lot 407, by Swettenham’s Victorian Champion Sire, Toronado. This filly is the first foal of the G2-placed Fleetwood Maca, who also counts herself a half-sister to G1 South African winner Mac De Lago and seven-time winner The Odyssey.
