The 2026 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale concluded at Oaklands last week, posting a new sale record gross of $15,289,500 - a 51% increase on 2025. Combined with the Sydney leg, Inglis' national weanling series totalled just under $35 million for the year. It also marks the end of the 2026 in-person sale season for the east coast of Australia.
Victorian Vendors
Victorian vendors were well represented, accounting for the lion's share of the sale with 254 lots sold for a combined $13,004,500 at an average of $51,199 and a median of $25,000.
Burnewang North Pastoral finished as the sale's leading vendor overall, selling all 17 weanlings offered for $2,387,000 at an average of $140,412. Their Anamoe x Witches colt was a standout of the draft, drawing heavy inspection traffic throughout the week before selling for $480,000 to a partnership of Grenville Stud, SP Bloodstock, and Suman Hedge.
The sale's top lot also came from Victorian hands in Lot 406, an Anamoe x Femme Fireball filly bred in partnership by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and Peter Murray. The filly was sold to Yulong for $825,000, equalling the all-time Great Southern sale record.
Victorian Sires
Swettenham Stud’s resident sire Toronado (IRE) was the standout Victorian sire of the sale. His 12 lots grossed $1,360,000 at an average of $113,333 and a median of $100,000, with the top price of $220,000 achieved by Lot 164 (ex Royal Filly colt). Fellow Victorians Ghaiyyath and Cylinder (both standing at Darley Northwood) also featured in the sale's top five sires.
Victorian Buyers
Victorian buyers were active throughout, purchasing 115 lots for a total of $4,695,000 at an average of $40,826 and a median of $13,000. While Yulong topped the buyer list with their single purchase, Cameron Cooke Bloodstock was the most active Victorian buyer by volume, securing five lots for $494,000.
Lots with bonus scheme eligibility continued to prove in demand, with 151 VOBIS Sires eligible lots sold, highlighting the strong demand from buyers looking to take advantage of the lucrative prizemoney bonuses available in Victoria.
Well done to all vendors and buyers on a successful sale season!
