Inglis Easter Yearling Sale Preview

TBV

The renowned Inglis Easter Yearling Sale inspections started this week with 500 lots catalogued and it certainly looks to be living up to its reputation as ‘the best of the best’, producing 33 G1 winning graduates since 2018. Of the 500 lots on offer this year, there are 175 siblings to stakes winners as well as the progeny of a number of high-profile race mares, including the well-publicised daughter of Winx. 65 individual sires are represented in the catalogue, with a strong Victorian presence. As ever, we have picked out some Victorian sired, bred and VOBIS-eligible lots which are sure to be popular.

Lot 55 Written Tycoon x Harlech Colt (Image: Inglis/Yulong)

Lot 55 Written Tycoon x Harlech colt

The first yearling on our list comes from Yulong Stud, who have assembled an outstanding draft of yearlings for this prestigious sale. By their eight-time Champion Victorian Sire, Written Tycoon, this colt is a half-brother to G1 Australian Oaks and G1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner, Hungry Heart (Frankel). Harlech’s other two foals are also winners. They hail from the quality European family of G3 winner Maamora, and this VOBIS Eligible colt is likely to prove extremely popular at the sale.

Lot 63 Toronado x Hera (Image: Inglis/Gilgai Farm)

Lot 63 Toronado x Hera colt

Gilgai Farm offer a VOBIS Silver nominated colt by in-form Swettenham Stud-based stallion Toronado. Out of dual G2 winning O’Reilly mare Hera, this colt is from the family of G1 winners Ballroom Babe (Citidancer) and Dandy Andy (Three Legs). He is sure to be another popular Victorian-bred and -sired offering at Riverside Stables.

Lot 94 Lucky Vega x Kahara River (Image: Inglis/Sullivan Bloodstock)

Lot 94 Lucky Vega x Kahara River colt

Victorian-based Sullivan Bloodstock offer a colt by Yulong’s first-season sire Lucky Vega. Out of Kahara River (Bushranger), and from a European family steeped in black-type, this colt is related to G1 winner La Pelosa (Dandy Man) as well as Group winning and G1 performing horses such as Bocca Baciata (Big Bad Bob), Topeka (Whipper) and Primo Bacio (Awtaad). This colt is nominated for VOBIS Silver and eligible for VOBIS Platinum upgrade so is sure to prove popular with Victorian-based buyers in particular, with plenty of bonuses to target.

Lot 143 Written Tycoon x Melody Belle (Image: Inglis/Yulong)

Lot 143 Written Tycoon x Melody Belle filly

We couldn’t leave this off our list, one of the most obvious yearlings in the sale. Yulong offer the first foal out of 13-time G1 winner Melody Belle (NZ) (Commands). The filly is by Victoria’s eight-time Champion Sire and sire of G1 Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot, Written Tycoon. Melody Belle herself realised $57,500 at Karaka as a yearling, but sold to Yulong for $2,600,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale following her retirement from the track. From the quality family of Listed winners Tutukaka and La Flora Belle, this yearling filly is eligible for the lucrative VOBIS program. She has a high level to live up to on the track, but her preparation and predigree stand her in good stead to turn into a quality race filly in her own right.

Loy 289 Toronado x Shine On Anna (Image: Inglis/Longwood Thoroughbred Farm)

Lot 289 Toronado x Shine On Anna colt

Lot 289 is another VOBIS Silver nominated colt by Toronado on this list who’s also eligible to be upgraded to VOBIS Platinum. Out of the winning Anabaa mare Shine On Anna, this colt is a half-brother to G2 and three-time G3 winner See You In Heaven (Divine Prophet). The second dam, Shine On Me (Machiavellian) was a Listed placegetter from the family of G1 winner Shaka (Exit To Nowhere). Victorian-based farm Longwood Thoroughbred Farm offer this colt, as part of their small but smart draft of four yearlings.

We wish all Victorian breeders, vendors and buyers success at the Inglis Easter Sale, and we look forward to following the horses when they hit the track in a few years’ time!
