Connections of 89 VOBIS Gold horses will be happily vying for some big cash on Saturday at Caulfield.

The Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday is made up of seven VOBIS Gold-exclusive races, along with two open-grade stakes races, the Bel Esprit Stakes and the TROA Anniversary Vase.

The total level of prizemoney and bonuses more than $2.06 million is actually higher than that available in Sydney this weekend – even with its two Group 1 races.

Such is the benefit for the owner, in races such as the Avenel Equine Hospital 2YO VOBIS Sires and the Spendthrift Australia 3YO Sires, there is more prizemoney on offer for finishing 10th ($6,000) than there is fourth ($5,400) in the Stakes events.

With all of the riches on offer, the fields are laden with quality.

Classy Group winners such as Rich Charm, French Emotion, Sword of Light, Montoya’s Secret, Kiwia, Keen Array and Prussian Vixen all line up in VOBIS Gold races as do a host of quality young two and three year-olds in the VOBIS Sires races.

The raceday also involves the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes. The race takes on extra meaning this year for the six-time Champion Victorian Sire Bel Esprit as he has returned to his Victorian home at Sun Stud, Kerrie.

Racing Victoria, in conjunction with the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC), are offering all Victorian Owners’ Gold Card holders free entry to Caulfield on Saturday as well as one guest, plus they’ll receive a free copy of Best Bets and entry into the members’ area at the Connections Owners’ Pavilion.

In addition, Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria, in conjunction with the MRC and Racing Victoria, has made available free Caulfield members passes to all TBV members and their stud staff for the raceday.

RV Executive General Manager – Racing, Greg Carpenter, said: “The Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday is a great celebration of participation in the Victorian racing industry, and a meeting that continues to grow in both stature and prizemoney.

“It is the industry’s ultimate aim to showcase Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday as a marquee event in 2018 and beyond, particularly as we build-up to the inaugural running of the $1 million ‘The Showdown’ next year.

“The Showdown will take prizemoney for the VOBIS race component of the program beyond $2.5 million in 2019 and $2.7 million in 2020, with the VOBIS Sires three-year-old race increasing to $500,000.

“To be part of this exciting and rewarding day, owners must remember to nominate their 2016-born foals for Super VOBIS by 30 April, 2018, and to the VOBIS Gold program no later than 31 August, 2018.”
