Hong Kong Victorian success Part 1
It was a top night for Victorian bred/sired horses at Sha Tin’s Chinese New Year raceday on February 10th. Prompt Express (bred by David Mackintosh) and Presidentparamount, both sons of Rangal Park sire Danerich, scored wins.
Also winning on the day was the Supreme Thoroughbreds/Brent Grayling bred Chevalier Star (by Bel Esprit). He was sold at the Inglis 2013 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for $280,000 to Hong Kong’s George Moore.
Hong Kong Victorian success Part 2
It was a huge night for Gilgai Farm at Hong Kong on Sunday, February 14th. No less than three runners bred by the farm lined up. Vanilla (Host – Soorena) got up for a big win. He raced in Australia as Philippi winning the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes and Tulloch Stakes while also coming 2nd in the Group 1 Australian Derby. Vanilla is a half brother to the Robbie Griffiths trained stakes winner The Quarterback.
In other races, the Gilgai bred pair Tonyboy and Lucky Bubbles both were runners up while Contract Racing bred Dancing Flames (by Equiano) also came 2nd in his race.
Flying Artie Schiller
A day after Flying Artie won the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield, Lindsay Park’s Party Boy (also by Emirates Park’s Artie Schiller) won at Pakenham. The sire also had winners at Geraldton and Stony Creek over the past week.
Sydney’s Vic bred stars return
A number of Victorian bred/sired horses trained in Sydney started their Autumn preparations over the weekend:
- Future Woodside Park sire Rich Enuff (by Written Tycoon) was a very close third in a Group 3 race as he chases an elusive Group 1 victory prior to retiring to the breeding bard.
- Solicit (bred Contract Racing) & Hauraki (by Darley Victoria’s Reset) fought bravely to place 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Cox Plate winning super mare Winx in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes.
- The James Cummings trained, Gooree Park owned 3yo filly Tempt Me Not finished her 2015 Spring preparation with a stakes placing at Flemington. She began in similar style with a placing in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes. She is by Bullarook Park’s sire Strategic Maneuver.
Purple patch for Blue Gum sire
It has been a good past week for progeny of Blue Gum Farm sire Turffontein. He had two city wins through Turfin’ Around at Sandown and Lord Fontein at Moonee Valley while Dance With Fontein won at Ararat on Monday collecting a good VOBIS bonus cheque (in addition to prizemoney). She was bought for just $2,000 at the 2013 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale!
Long time breeder Valda Klaric got herself a second consecutive city win with her home bred mare French Emotion taking out race 8 at Sandown. Trained by Chris Waller, the 4yo mare was raised at Millford Thoroughbreds.
A sling of wins for Nagambie breeder
After two home bred wins at Terang the week before last, Limerick Lane owner Gerry Ryan followed it up with a win by homebred Tuscan Sling at Caulfield on the weekend in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes.
Perhaps the most local win/best name of the week was by Rochie’s Rosie. She won her maiden at Echuca and is a homebred for Burnewang North – located just down the road nearby to ‘Roch’ester. She is by Riverbank Farm sire Von Costa De Hero.
Set Piece, a grey son of Darley Victorian sire Reset, won the Tab.com.au Bathurst Cup over the weekend. On Monday at Grafton, perhaps one of Reset’s better bred sons, Thunder Set won at Grafton. Out of Miss Right Note (Ire), Thunder Set is the older brother to racetrack/breeding barn star Pierro.
