Bullarook Park will offer the first foals by Lucas Cranach at the Inglis Great Southern Sale this Sunday & Monday.
Avenel studmaster Malcolm Boyd has catalogued 4 colts and 3 fillies by the German-bred star who was a Group 2 winner in his homeland and Australia.
“He had 104 mares in his first book and another 96 last year,” Boyd said. “His foals coming down to Oaklands are outstanding – they’re all similar types – I can’t fault them.”
Lucas Cranach (Ger) was purchased to race out here by Australian Bloodstock and he won the G2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield and finished third in Dunaden’s G1 Melbourne Cup.
“With the outcross Lucas Cranach offers breeders, plus his explosive turn of foot, he will produce some quality products,” Australian Bloodstock’s Luke Murrell said. “His versatility also gives him a genuine chance of becoming a successful stallion.”
Lucas Cranach is by Sheikh Mohammed’s Group 1 sire Mamool from Lots Of Love (Java Gold) who was a stakes winner over 1600m in Germany
His foals at the Great Southern Sale kick off with the filly from Fine Arts (Quest For Fame). Catalogued as Lot 17, she’s related to Press Report who was Group 2 placed behind Mossfun in last year’s Silver Slipper Stakes.
“I’m sure the numbers to Lucas Cranach will keep coming in once people inspect his foals at Oaklands,” Boyd said. “Our clients book in again after seeing his babies.”
Lucas Cranach will stand for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee in 2015 and broodmare owners can contact Boyd on 0407 342 291.
