Medaglio d’Oro stallion Dark Cove (USA) has been signed to stand at Sutket Farm in Victoria.
For a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee, he will be based alongside Greenwood Lake (USA) and Ice Point (Arg) on the Bellarine Peninsula reports Brian Russell Media Service.
As a six year-old in 2013, Dark Cove won three stakes races over 2400 metres – G2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland, G3 Louisville Hcp at Churchill Downs and G3 Stars & Stripes Hcp at Arlington.
Dark Cove (Medaglio d’Oro – Crystal Cove by Kris S) won the Stars & Stripes in a record 2.27.39s for owner Ken Ramsey who stands champion sire Kitten’s Joy in Kentucky.
Kitten’s Joy and Medaglio d’Oro are both by Sadler’s Wells sire El Prado.
Dark Cove was bred by Stonewall Farm and changed hands several times before bowing out after 25 starts. He made $120,000 as a foal and $155,000 as a yearling at Keeneland Sales but was claimed by clients of trainer Nick Zito for just $16,000 after his third start.
Ramsay claimed him for $50,000 in April 2012.
Dark Cove comes from the family of North American Group 3 winners Better Now, River Squall, Heavenly Landing and former Blue Gum Farm stallion Churchill Downs.
Stallions based at Sutket Farm in recent years include Town Of Dragon (Redoute’s Choice), Beaufort Scale (Storm Cat), Furio (Testa Rossa) and Lord Jim (Lode).
