Stryker gelding Rangipo firmed into a $5 favourite for the Group 1 New Zealand Derby after a tenacious victory in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.

He’s the first horse Tony Pike has prepared for prominent owner-breeders John and Margaret Thompson.

Rangipo travelled behind the leaders on the fence and, as he did in winning the G2 Waikato Guineas, fought tooth and nail in the straight under Vinnie Colgan before finishing best in a driving finish.

“He’s an amazing horse as he’s been in work a long time and he just keeps turning up,” Pike said.

“He’s a really honest racehorse and quite a fast one as well!”

The up-and-coming three year-old is by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds’ foundation sire Stryker (Fastnet Rock). His Kiwi bred dam Holloway (Zabeel) won at Te Awamutu and she is a half-sister to Maze (G2 Awapuni Cup), Barlinnie (LR Sunshine Coast Cup) and Penitentiary (LR Geelong Classic).

Stryker had sired a winning double in his home State on Friday with She’ll Strykeya (Werribee) and Labdien (Moonee Valley).

Labdien is trained by Chris Waller for Debbie Kepitis who part-owned and still supports Stryker. The filly had won twice at Warwick Farm before travelling south and she is the second winner for stakes-placed mare Bold Moment (Fasliyev).

The winners kept rolling on Sunday with Welcome Stryker in a Super VOBIS bonus race at Ballarat. Trainer Danny Curran bought him for $10,000 from Moorookyle Park at the 2014 Inglis VOBIS Gold yearling sale.

Hong Kong winner Mr Right set in motion a profitable pin-hooking process when he changed hands as a foal at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale.

Mr Right notched his third win of the season in the Tsuen Wan Hcp (1000m) at Happy Valley on Wednesday. He sat on the pace under Joao Moreira and scored by a half-length from NZ bred sprinters General Iron and No Money No Talk.

The son of Eliza Park International sire Statue Of Liberty had already won over the minimum trip in October and December for trainer Peter Ho.

Mr Right (4g Statue Of Liberty – Prompt by Exceed and Excel) made $50,000 as a foal and he returned to the Magic Millions as a yearling when the Hong Kong Jockey Club quadrupled the asking price to $200,000.

While marking time before going off-shore, his price-tag increased again when younger half-brother Prompt Return (Beneteau) won the G3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.

That helped bump up his value to $HK3.70 million (AUD 611,000) when knocked down for a third time at the Hong Kong International Sale last year.

Statue Of Liberty has five yearlings catalogued for Melbourne Premier including the sister to G3 Proud Miss Stakes winner Miss Steele (Lot 345). Her family received a Group 1 update last month when close relation Dukedom won the Levin Classic in NZ. The final Statue Of Liberty to parade is the filly from Buratti (Lot 724) being offered by EPI as agent. She is bred on the same Exceed And Excel cross as Mr Right.

The Victorian trainer/breeder operation of John and Frank Salanitri had much to celebrate on Sunday night following the win of I Love It in the Group 3 Vamos Stakes over 1400 metres at Launceston.

The John Salanitri-trained mare came of age as a sprinter when she powered her way to an emphatic win at Group level and broke Lady Lynette’s track record along the way.

I Love It is by Emirates Park’s Victorian-based sire Artie Schiller. She is out of Not That Innocent, a city winning mare previously owned by the Salanitris and now by trainer Greg Eurell. She was bred to Bullarook Park sire Lucas Cranach last season.

This was the second stakes win this month for Artie Schiller with Flying Artie having won the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (and now second favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes).

In Tasmania, the mare’s regular rider Stephen Baster settled the mare third behind the leader Sh’bourne Spirit until the home turn where he eased her off the rails to challenge and she quickly put the end result beyond doubt.

“This definitely makes up for being beaten narrowly in Hobart last start,” said Salanitri stable manager Frank Salanitri.

“This mare means so much to our family and every time she races in one of these big races she always gives her all.

“We will now look at a raced for her at Flemington on March 5 or we might just give her a break straight away and have another look at the Group 1 Sangster in South Australia in a couple of m months.

I love It won the Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy in Hobart at her first start in Tasmania last year and she returned to tackle the same race two weeks ago only to be beaten in a head-bobbing finish by Niello mare Nautical.

Those looking for their own Artie Schiller racehorse can buy from the four on offer at the Inglis Yearling Sale:

In perhaps an unprecedented situation, a Victorian based sire has topped the averages at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Woodside Park’s Written Tycoon was the leading sire by averages (with 3 or more sold). A record highest sales price was achieved for his progeny when Lot 381 a colt out of the Zabeel mare Zals sold to the China Horse Club/Winstar Farm for $305,000.

“We have great respect for Written Tycoon,” said Michael Wallace, Bloodstock Manager of the China Horse Club.

“He will be trained by Peter and Paul Snowden and will race in partnership with Winstar Farm.”

These sale ring results came in the days following a phenomenal string of results at city tracks across Australia.

Written Tycoon sired a treble at Caulfield including the impressive Shakespearean Lass in the Listed WJ Adam Stakes as well as the Mark Riley trained Grande Rosso and the Mick Kent trained Written.

At Morphettville, Boys Getaround Him gave Written Tycoon his fourth city winner for the day. While in Sydney, the Written Tycoon mare Press Report was narrowly edged out in the Group 2 ATC Breeders Classic by the Makybe bred Amicus.

Written Tycoon is currently sitting equal second on the Australian General Sires List by winners. He is equal with Fastnet Rock both on 81 individual winners and in front of Snitzel, Choisir, Lonhro, Redoute’s Choice, Exceed and Excel and Sebring and surpassed only by Not A Single Doubt.

Written Tycoon is also sitting in 7th position on the Australian leading sire list by earnings just in front of multiple champion sire Redoute’s Choice as well as other star sires Snitzel, More Than Ready and Exceed and Excel.

The Woodside Park sire is without doubt that one of the hottest stallions in the country right now and the fact that he is being recognized internationally as a sire of stallion prospects proves that to no end.

Having covered 177 and 184 mares respectively in seasons 2014 and 2015, it is clear breeders around Australia see this Victorian sire as one of the very best.

Buyers will be able to access 20 Written Tycoon yearlings entered for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

The Richard Hannon trained War Glory has notched the first win of the New Year for Blue Gum Farm shuttler Canford Cliffs.

Handily placed under Sean Levey, War Glory kept on strongly to land a 1400m maiden second-up at Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

“He ran very well first time out but was just a bit green,” the winning jockey explained. “He’s come on at home and will definitely step up again. I think he will get a mile.”

War Glory (3c Canford Cliffs – Attracted To You by Hurricane Run) is owned Mohamed Saeed Al Shahi after being withdrawn from the 2014 Tattersalls October Sale. He’s the first foal of a Newbury winner and is related to G1 Irish National Stakes winner Heart Of Darkness who stood at Glenlogan Stud.

Canford Cliffs was a five-time Group 1 winner for Richard Hannon snr and was ranked Europe’s Champion 3YO Miler and World Champion Older Miler as a 4YO.

He sired an extraordinary 35 first-crop winners in Europe last year headed by Group winners Painted Cliffs (G2 Railway Stakes) and Most Beautiful (G3 Grangecon Stud). That fell just short of the record set by Iffraaj (38) five years ago.

The final winner of the year arrived on Xmas Eve when Canford Rose scored a half-length victory in the Premio Tenerani (1400m) in Rome. The Gabriele Bietolini trained filly is the first foal of Wolverhampton winner Supercharged (Iffraaj) and cost 15,000 euros at the 2014 Goffs Orby Sale.

Canford Cliffs has 12 yearlings from his second southern crop catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier. The consignment kicks off with the half-sister to Group 2 winning filly Fontiton (Lot 265) being offered by Blue Gum Farm (as agent).

Lee Freedman will go ahead with plans to set Artistic Design for the $250,000 Inglis 2YO Premier despite the lack of suitable lead-ups before the Caulfield sales-related race on February 6.

Artistic Design is by Swettenham Stud sire Master Of Design and wasn’t asked to let down during a quiet 800m trial at Flemington last Wednesday. He settled second behind Lindsay Park colt Karaama (Lonhro) and was then geared down in the straight.

The unraced colt is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Trust In A Gust and cost Freedman $300,000 at the 2015 Melbourne Premier. He is raced by a syndicate that includes Ozzie Kheir, Trust In A Gust’s managing part-owner David Speechley and Swettenham’s Adam Sangster.

“He pulled up really well after that trial at Flemington and I’m delighted with the way he has trained on since then,” Freedman said. “All we have to do now is find a suitable race to kick him off. The programming here makes it difficult and I don’t want to send him to Sydney.”

Freedman mentioned the LR Blue Diamond Preview (C & G) over 1000m at Caulfield on January 26 as a possible starting point. That would give the colt an 11 day turnaround to the Inglis 2YO Premier.

Artistic Design is also one of the stable’s five two year-olds remaining in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 27 after second declarations closed earlier this week.

Freedman was determined to buy the colt after inspecting him at Melbourne Premier.

“I thought he was the best of the Master Of Design yearlings at Oaklands,” the Hall of Fame trainer said.

“He’s a got a beautiful pedigree and is a great physical specimen.”

Master of Design (Redoute’s Choice) has 17 second-crop yearlings catalogued for this year’s Melbourne Premier and the first to parade from Swettenham (Lot 172) is a winning half-sister to G2 Alister Clark Stakes winner Domesky.

The stars are aligning for Swettenham Stud sire Americain in the lead-up to the Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.

The Melbourne Cup winner was raced by Kevin & Colleen Bamford and Gerry & Val Ryan and both couples have been on a winning run over the holidays.

Americain (USA) has 26 first-crop yearlings for Melbourne Premier – Swettenham has entered 6 and the Bamfords have 9 under their Daisy Hill Breeding banner.

One of the highlights among the Daisy Hill yearlings is the Americain – Paris Tryst colt (Lot 115) in the Blue Riband Session.

He’s a half-brother to Yulong Baby who is on a hat-trick after Caulfield wins on Boxing Day and January 9. Paris Tryst (Fusaichi Pegasus) is an unraced daughter of Australian Horse of the Year Let’s Elope.

The Ryans followed up Yulong Baby’s victory with Tuscan Sling who carried their Limerick Lane colours to victory in the LR Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day.

Another Americain colt in the Blue Riband Session is Lot 112 from Ampulla Lodge. He’s a half-brother to Kaphero filly Northkape who won the $100,000 VOBIS Gold Plate last year.

Their dam Northeast Note (Stravinsky) is a half-sister to LR Victorian St Leger winner Berlioz. Ampulla studmaster Steve Jostlear pin-hooked the colt for $85,000 at last year’s Great Southern Foal Sale. He was bred in partnership by Swettenham’s Adam Sangster and Gerry Ryan.

Jostlear and his wife Ceri are still on Cloud 9 after last week’s Magic Millions. They pin-hooked an Exceed And Excel colt for $300,000 at the Great Southern Sale and its value sky-rocketed to $800,000 in six months.

Swettenham’s Americain entrants include Lot 419, a filly from a half-sister to Zipping and Lot 452, a colt out of a three-quarter sister to Not A Single Doubt.

Americain (Dynaformer) is about to cover his latest northern hemisphere book at Calumet Farm in Kentucky and his first two year-olds will begin racing in the USA this year. Calumet owner Brad Kelley has also sent a select few to Dermot Weld in Ireland.

Leading Perth owner-breeder Bob Peters is another fan of Americain. His WA Oaks winner Reflected Image delivered an Americain filly on the eve of last year’s Melbourne Cup and her value continued to rise when older half-sister Perfect Reflection won the G1 Kingston Town Stakes at Ascot on December 5.

Reflected Image (More Than Ready) foaled down at Millford Thoroughbreds in Nagambie and she made the short trip to be bred back to Americain on November 29. Millford’s Jarrod Byers describes the filly as “lovely and athletic with plenty of quality.”

Peters has announced Perfect Reflection will travel to Melbourne for her next Group 1 assignment in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 7.

It was a week of extraordinary results for Victorian breeders at the Magic Millions sales and raceday on the Gold Coast last week. Here are some of the highlights:

  • At least four Victorian vendors, achieved record sale prices for yearlings they have sold, including Burnewang North, Rosemount, Ampulla and Woodside Park.
  • Ampulla Lodge was ranked second by lot averages across all vendors in Book 1.
  • Two yearlings bred by Makybe both made $800,000 putting them both in the Top 10 of highest priced lots.
  • Rosemount’s sire Starspangledbanner had progeny return to the sales ring after a year off and made the top 10 list for sire averages (with 3 or more lots). In fact, he was the only Australian based sire not from the Hunter Valley to make the top 10.
  • Spendthrift, now based in Australia at its Macedon Ranges farm, spent almost $2.1 million buying four colts including an $800,000 Makybe bred colt.
  • Capitalist, by Woodside Park’s Victorian based sire, won the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Runner-up, was the Gilgai Farm, Victorian bred Nikitas (Snitzel x Mine Game) and just behind in fourth place was the Burnewang North Victorian bred Niccolance (Nicconi x Nonchalance).
  • Wolf Cry (Street Cry x Starfish) bred by TBV Member Wood Nook Farm, won the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden for trainer Peter Snowden and owners including Bob & Rosemary Scarborough.

Northern Victoria’s Burnewang North achieved a record price for a yearling off the farm when its Lot 582, a colt by Snitzel, sold for $500,000 at the Magic Millions sale.

Out of the Storm Cat mare, Seaside Home, the colt was purchased by famed trainer Gai Waterhouse and Blue Sky Bloodstock.

Stud principal, Cathy Hains said she and the team at the farm were beside themselves after achieving the record price and having Gai Waterhouse buy the yearling.

“I pay tribute to the Burnewang North team on the farm and here at the sales who have done a great job in presenting all of the farm’s lots for sale.”

“The Snitzel colt is a big strong horse that does everything you want him to. We love him and we really look forward to his future with Gai.

“Gai is a star trainer and someone who will give the horse every chance to achieve at the highest level as a two year old and further on in its career.

The record price continued a very strong sale for Burnewang North with its lots sold after four days averaging $257,000 including a $470,000 Sebring colt sold to Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings from the USA.

On Day 1, they sold Lot 9 a Denman filly out of the stakes placed former Darley mare Albaicin.

She sold for $110,000 to Cumani Racing/Boomer Bloodstock and will be trained by Matt Cumani out of his new stables at Ballarat.

“I try and make a point of only buying horses that I really, really like,” Matt said.

“She’s a beautiful mover and really athletic and the sort of filly we can get up reasonably early and come back and challenge in the big race next year.

Matt said the VOBIS scheme operating in Victoria was a significant influence on his purchase and the overall set up of his new stable.

“Of course, VOBIS is absolutely fantastic. You win a couple of those and you get that money back and you’ve paid off your year’s training fees. It’s an absolutely fantastic incentive.

Matt said his Ballarat stable will start operating in mid January following the Magic Millions sales with a mixture of tried horses and unraced youngsters.

Cathy Hains, Burnewang North principal was thrilled to be part of Cumani Racing’s first foray into the yearling sales.

“We are very, very happy to have sold our filly to the Cumanis,” Cathy said.

Lauriston Thoroughbreds averaged $170,000 for its yearlings at the Magic Millions and operations manager James O’Brien was also busy keeping count of the farm’s winning graduates over the weekend.

The Corinella nursery grossed $850,000 for its 5 lots on the Gold Coast topped by a $220,000 filly bought by Victorian syndicator Brad Spicer. She’s bred to fly being by Snitzel and out of Moonee Valley 55 Second Challenge winner Rapidement.

“She’s VOBIS nominated and Brad will bring her back to target all the bonus money,” O’Brien said.

“She’s an impressive filly and is bred on a similar cross to Wandjina.”

Lauriston Thoroughbreds sold a Snitzel colt (ex Paramount) to Toby Edmonds for $200,000 plus a Redoute’s Choice filly (ex Show Stealer) that Jason Warren secured for $160,000.

Show Stealer’s first foal is a 3yo Exceed And Excel filly with the Snowdens named Typecast and she was placed first-up at Hawkesbury during a short prep earlier this season.

“Jason trains the mare’s 2yo filly Conductress. She’s by Commands and Jason was keen to come back for the yearling on the strength of what she’s shown so far” O’Brien said.

The latest Lauriston Thoroughbreds bred galloper heading to Hong Kong is the Not A Single Doubt filly (ex Five Star Belle) that made $180,000 on Thursday. She’s a three-quarter sister to Warren’s promising 2yo filly The Seductress who won again at Caulfield on Saturday.

Apollo Choice (Choisir) has showcased the Lauriston Thoroughbreds brand in Hong Kong and he came within a head of winning again at Sha Tin on Saturday. He was placed in a G2 Sandown Guineas before heading off-shore to clients of David Hall.

The narrow loss didn’t knock the gloss off a wonderful week for the O’Brien family in Australia. They celebrated 4 winners in just 3 days as Godavari (Mackay), Chiavari (Cranbourne), The Seductress (Caulfield) and Sette Bello (Mornington) kept the roll going from Friday to Sunday.

The Seductress picked up $79,000 for her win the $80,000 prizemoney race. Being nominated to Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold, she was able to almost double the usual winning prizemoney for such a race. She has now won a tick over $116,000 with half of that coming in VOBIS bonuses demonstrating the lure of racing a Victorian bred horse.

After the dust settled on a super start to the sale season, O’Brien’s buoyant mood mirrored the whole industry in his role as TBV President.

“The Gold Coast was exciting and the results were terrific. The VOBIS qualified lots attracted buyers up there and our vendors have a catalogue full of them coming up at Melbourne Premier as well as significant numbers of lots at Sydney Classic, Adelaide, Tasmania and Sydney Easter,” O’Brien said.

Spendthrift Farm owner B Wayne Hughes continued to consolidate his Australian interests with the purchase of four colts at Magic Millions including a $800,000 Fastnet Rock colt bred in Victoria.

The Fastnet Rock colt was bred by Makybe and the Spendthrift principal had to beat off some stiff opposition during the morning session on Thursday.

No doubt the star colt’s new owner has a vision of him standing as a sire at their new Australian operations in the Macedon Ranges having performed at the highest levels on the track.

Hughes took charge of the bidding flanked by Spendthrift’s USA general manager Ned Toffey and his Victorian-based Australian general manager Garry Cuddy.

“The colt has got the looks and the pedigree,” Cuddy said.

“The auctioneer said he’s a stallion in waiting and just about sums up the package.”

The well-built chestnut is out of Gold Anthem making him a sibling of multiple Group 1 winner and now sire Starspangledbanner (Choisir) as well as the stakes placed Gold Chant who is the dam of G1 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus (Fastnet Rock).

Hughes was also active on Day 1 of the Magic Millions purchasing colts by Street Cry ($625,000) and Snitzel ($500,000) along with a $160,000 Hinchinbrook colt on Day 4.

“It’s a statement of intent by Mr Hughes,” Cuddy said.

“Buying the horses is the easy part – they will head to Limitless Lodge and a decision on trainers will be made in due course.”

Spendthrift has just finished its inaugural southern covering season well at the Victorian nursery formally known as Yallambee Stud. The foundation roster comprised Australian Group 1 winner Hampton Court and three shuttlers from Kentucky.

Hampton Court (Redoute’s Choice) won the G1 Champion Stakes at Randwick and he flew out to Kentucky on December 21 for his first northern book this year.

“We are excited to be able to offer American breeders the opportunity to ‘Share the Upside’ or ‘Breed Secure’ on Hampton Court,” Hughes said.

“Redoute’s Choice is Danehill’s best son at stud, and Danehill was Danzig’s best son at stud. We believe Hampton Court can be an important and unique stallion for American breeders from a highly successful sire line.”

Eliza Park International sire Magnus has averaged over $100,000 for his two yearlings presented at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.

His colt from Shirl Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) made $120,000 to the bid of Freedman Racing on Friday afternoon. The colt’s dam won twice in Sydney and was also Group 2 placed in the AJC Breeders’ Classic.

Eliza Park International sold him on behalf of long term client and Dorrington Farm owner Rob Crabtree who raced Magnus to a Group 1 victory in the AJC Galaxy.

“He’s a lovely colt and typical of the breed,” Eliza Park’s Philip Marshall said.

“Magnus has built up a tremendous record in the last 12 months and it’s no wonder trainers like his stock. They’re genuine, straight-forward gallopers.”

The other Magnus for sale on the Gold Coast was knocked down to local trainer Jason McLachlan. He paid $85,000 for the colt from Tasmanian Thousand Guineas winner Le Bel Away (Bel Esprit).

Eliza Park International’s racing arm Sun Bloodstock has also been busy at the Magic Millions and its buys on Friday included a Victorian bred Lonhro colt from Victoria’s Ampulla Lodge for $340,000.

Ampulla owners Steve and Ceri Jostlear have enjoyed a ground-breaking Book 1 Sale with three lots grossing $1.32 million. The Bunyip-based pin-hooker topped Day 1 with an $800,000 Exceed And Excel colt bred by Makybe.

Fellow Victorian breeder Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm finished Book 1 with turnover of $850,000 for 5 lots. Top price for them was the $220,000 Snitzel – Rapidement filly bought by Victorian syndicator Brad Spicer.

Spendthrift Farm owner B Wayne Hughes continued to consolidate his Australian interests with the purchase of an $800,000 Victorian bred Fastnet Rock colt on Day 2 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.

No doubt the star colt’s new owner has a vision of him standing as a sire at their new Australian operations in the Macedon Ranges having performed at the highest levels on the track.

The colt (pictured below) was bred in Victoria by the renowned Makybe nursery and the Spendthrift principal had to beat off some stiff opposition during the morning session on Thursday.

Hughes took charge of the bidding flanked by Spendthrift’s USA general manager Ned Toffey and his Victorian-based Australian general manager Garry Cuddy.

“The colt has got the looks and the pedigree,” Cuddy said.

“The auctioneer said he’s a stallion in waiting and that just about sums him up.”

Hughes was also active on Day 1 of the Magic Millions purchasing colts by Street Cry ($625,000) and Snitzel ($500,000). He flew back to the USA on Thursday afternoon but Cuddy indicated the Spendthrift team still has a shopping list for the Friday and Saturday sessions.

“That’s the plan and it’s a statement of intent by Mr Hughes,” Cuddy said.

“Buying the horses is the easy part – they will go through the system at Limitless Lodge and a decision on trainers will be made in due course.”

Spendthrift has just finished its inaugural southern covering season at the Victorian nursery formally known as Yallambee Stud. The foundation roster comprised Australian Group 1 winner Hampton Court and three shuttlers from Kentucky.

Their colonial sire Hampton Court (Redoute’s Choice) won the G1 Champion Stakes at Randwick and he flew out to Kentucky on December 21 for his first northern book this year.

We believe Hampton Court can be an important and unique stallion for American breeders.”

Rosemont Stud owner Anthony Mithen is gearing up for the Magic Millions after selling two mares in foal to Starspangledbanner at the Arqana December Sale in Deauville.

Both mares were sold in foal to northern hemisphere time through Edwige Le Metayer’s Haras du Buff consignment – Noisy Feet (Tapit) made 175,000 euros (AUD 259,325) to the bid of agent Mick Flanagan and Scarlet (Dushyantor) was purchased for 40,000 euros (AUD 59,275) by Narvick International.

Noisy Feet won the LR College of New Jersey Stakes at Monmouth Park before being exported to Australia. Her first live foal is a yearling colt by Toorak Toff.

Scarlet was the Champion 2YO Filly of her year in Chile after winning the G1 Arturo Lyon Pena. Her latest foal in Australia is a yearling filly by Trusting.

“Starspangledbanner got 15 mares in foal to northern hemisphere time earlier this year and 11 of those are our own,” says Mithen.

“In the southern hemisphere breeding season, he covered 75 mares and will have a fertility rate of more than 50% for the first time.”

Five lots by the multiple Group 1 winning sire will be on offer at the Gold Coast this week. These are the first of the yearlings by the sire from his first season standing at Rosemont in Victoria to go to the yearling sales.

A further five lots are to be offered at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale starting on February 28th while two lots have been catalogued for the Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.

There must be something in the air that breezes across Westernport Bay on to the Corinella beachside property of Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. Their yearlings always look a treat!

On the annual northward trip to the Gold Coast this year, Lauriston will present a small but select draft of five precocious yearlings.

Warren Diggles, Yearling Manager at Lauriston says this is the most impressive draft that he has had the pleasure to prepare and present for the farm.

“All five yearlings are September foals well conformed and well behaved. This is a very even draft,” Warren said.

“From the day that they arrived from our breeding farm as weanlings each showed precocity and a demand for singular attention.

“And each quickly became obvious candidates as a prospective yearling for the Magic Millions Sale.

“On inspection this will be obvious to any potential buyer.”

Below are two highlights of of Lauriston’s draft.

Full details of the Lauriston Thoroughbreds draft can be found on their own website or on the Magic Millions sale page.

Lot  227 – Bay colt, Not a Single Doubt x Five Star Belle
This colt displays all the hallmarks of an early runner. It would not surprise me if this yearling is a contender in the 2017 Magic Millions 2yo Classic. He exudes strength, speed and a positive work ethic that will make him a perfect addition to any trainer’s stable. His three-quarter sister, The Seductress, has already proven her early ability on the race track having won impressively at Bendigo just prior to Christmas.

Lot 530 – Grey filly, Snitzel x Rapidement
Wow! This powerful filly, bred for speed, on a similar cross to Wandjina, will run.

She has responded amazingly to the sale preparation; continuing to grow and develop physically and mentally throughout the process and as a result she impresses as an outstanding individual.
