The Inglis Great Southern Sale in Melbourne next month contains the largest selection of foals at any southern hemisphere auction in 2016.
The catalogue is now online for the Oaklands sale on June 19, 20, 21 and 22.
After a flood of entries, the sale was extended to a four-day format, including two full days of weanlings, 290 of which are entered in the Platinum Session and 105 in the General Session.
A total of 86 Victorian vendors will present broodmares and weanlings.
In addition, two well proven Victorian sires, Astronomer Royal and Purrealist will be offered for sale
“The popularity of the Platinum Session has skyrocketed this year,” Inglis Victorian Manager Simon Vivian said.
“Vendors recognise the benefit in increasing buyer confidence by X-Raying their premium stock.”
Weanlings on offer are by a first-class collection of stallions including 55 Victorian sires.
In particular, weanling buyers will have the opportunity to secure progeny from seven individual first season Victorian sires Unencumbered, War, Fiorente, Polanski, Kuroshio, Fighting Sun and Niconoise.
Proven Victorian sires represented in the weanling section include Written Tycoon, Magnus, Reset, Reward for Effort and Street Boss.
Following the weanling sections, over 250 broodmares from Victoria’s leading farms will be offered, 200 of which are due to foal this season.
No less than 40 Victorian sires are represented in-utero.
Importantly, these in-utero foals by Victorian sires will be the first generation of horses eligible for the lucrative inaugural $1 million VOBIS Sires 2yo race to be run in April 2019 – followed by the inaugural $500,000 VOBIS Sires 3yo race starting in 2020.
Six Victorian first season sires of 2015 will make their Victorian sales ring ‘debut’ including:
Hampton Court & Warriors Reward (both standing at Spendthrift Farm);
Puissance de Lune, Toronado and The Wow Signal (all standing at Swettenham Stud; and
Warhorse (standing at Bombora Downs)
Over 120 lots of racing stock will join stallions Purrealist (Lot 662) and Astronomer Royal (Lot 661).
Supplementary entries will close on Friday 10 June.
