Woodside Park Stud will be taking a draft of four to the Magic Millions next month. This includes three colts by the Champion Victorian stallion, Written Tycoon and a filly by Zoustar. There are high hopes for the progeny of Written Tycoon as the sire is also leading the way with Stakes winners so far this season with a hugely impressive Spring as we saw dual Group 1 winner Ole Kirk take out the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and the Group 1 Golden Rose and Odeum winning the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

‘Written Tycoon is certainly what we believed and hoped would happen. Once his stock came from the better quality of mare, his progeny would just elevate on the track. This season he has done exactly that. There is no doubt that Written Tycoon is up there with the best stallions in the country and is becoming a highly desired sire line not just for Australian buyers but also internationally.’ Remarked James Price

First to go through the ring for Woodside Park Stud is Lot 88, Written Tycoon x Bel Selene, a Bel Esprit mare. The breeding of this colt will be getting the attention of buyers as he by the same cross as the impressive Champion three-year-colt this season, Ole Kirk. ‘He is a very well put together colt, he is a forward two-year-old runner from a great family, his dam is a half-sister to five-time Group 1 winner Mummify and boasts a large amount of black-type on this pedigree.’

Lot 373 is a Written Tycoon colt x Hell or Highwater, a Not a Single Doubt Group winning mare and the colt is the first foal for this mare. This colt is bred with the same cross of Enthaar the Group 3 winner of 2020 Gimcrack Stakes and favourite for the 2021 Golden Slipper. ‘He is one of two colts by Written Tycoon bred on the Not a Single Doubt cross this year. The second colt will be presented at the Easter Sale.’

The final Written Tycoon colt of offer by Woodside Park Stud is Lot 739 out of the Dubawi mare, Salamati. This mare who was purchased by Woodside Park in France and is closely related to Sandown Classic winner, Sound. ‘They are all well put- together colts and different in their own right but we feel they are forward mature types that will present very well at the sale to the buyers’ stated James.

Woodside Park Stud have one filly in their draft by Zoustar x the Stakes winning mare, Lucky Can Be (Lot 492) and is closely related to the 2020 Melbourne Cup contender Persan.

‘She is very much in the mould of Zoustar’s best filly, Sunlight. She is a beautiful filly, lovely size, great depth of girth and an impressive power and shoulder. She is already being admired by on-farm inspectors’

James is confident ahead of the sale and believes buyers will be ready to purchase after the turbulent year 2020 has thrown at us.

‘I think the market will be as strong as it ever has been. Talking to trainers and syndicators I know that they have had a good year selling the horses they have purchased in 2020. Due to the travel restrictions, trainer’s debt is low, syndicators debt is low so I believe they will be going to the sale with confidence. If you have the right article which sits in the top 20% of the sale, I think you will be well rewarded.’
