Woodside Park Stud has 10 foals parading at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and among the highlights are fillies by Victorian based stallions Artie Schiller and Master Of Design.
The pair are scheduled to go under the hammer on Sunday afternoon and Woodside Park nominations manager Suman Hedge revealed both fillies have been popular with prospective buyers during inspections this week.
The Artie Schiller — Over Exposed filly (Lot 246) is the first foal of an Exceed And Excel mare who won two Moonee Valley sprints in Woodside Park’s colours. “There’s plenty of scope and length to her,” Hedge said at the Gold Coast sale grounds on Friday. “She’s a true to type Artie Schiller and will be targeted by pin-hookers.”
The Master Of Design — Paris Return filly (Lot 250) received two updates earlier the month when her older half-sister Fantome Gris won at Bendigo and Sandown Lakeside for syndicator Brad Spicer. “She’s an athletic filly and covers plenty of ground,” Hedge commented. “She will make a lovely yearling.”
In other developing news, Woodside Park owner Mark Rowsthorn is assessing which mares he will send to Zoustar when the champion colt retires to stud.
A strained a suspensory ligament called a halt to Zoustar’s Royal Ascot campaign this week. The Chris Waller trained three year-old had earned a trip to England with Group 1 triumphs in the Golden Rose and Coolmore Stud Stakes earlier this season.
“Mark has a 25% share in Zoustar,” Hedge explained. “Of those 35 nominations, 20 will be our mares and among the remainder will be foals shares although the mares will have to fulfil strict quality criteria.”
Zoustar (Northern Meteor) was an $85,000 graduate of the 2011 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale. He will stand alternate seasons between Widden Stud and Woodside Park starting off in the Hunter Valley.
