Rosemont Stud bagged its latest black-type success when Estonian Princess won the Group 3 J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Rosemont bred and sold the filly for $65,000 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is raced by Glenn and Viive Williams and has now earned over $341,000.
Estonian Princess (3f Snitzel – Meet My Sis by Prized) broke her maiden at Randwick on New Year’s Day and was then runner-up to Snitzel filly Sweet Idea in the LR Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on the Gold Coast.
Settled at the rear of the field on Saturday, Estonian Princess had plenty to do with 400 metres to run, as Northern Glory and Lady Lakshmi pulled clear to fight out the finish.
Given full rein by Brenton Avdulla, the Victorian bred filly extended very generously to catch Northern Glory right on the line, with Lady Lakshmi a short head away third.
“We went to the Adrian Knox Stakes last time but she didn’t run the 2000m so we dropped her back in distance,” trainer Scott Aspery said. “It looks like seven furlongs is just right for her.”
Rosemont owner Anthony Mithen had purchased her dam Meet My Sis for $48,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale. Her earlier foals included G2 Sandown Guineas winner Schilling (Bianconi).
Meet My Sis has a filly foal by Toorak Toff and she was one of 119 mares covered by Rosemont’s Group 1 winning sprinter last year.
