Media Release from Spendthrift

The Australian arm of the Spendthrift operation will go to another level with Bolt d’Oro (USA) to shuttle this season to the Victorian nursery where he will stand at a service fee of $13,750 (inc GST).

Bolt d’Oro is a multiple Group 1-winning son of Medaglia d’Oro {USA}) and one of the leading North American two-year-old’s of 2017.

“Bolt d’Oro will be the highest-profile stallion to shuttle to Spendthrift Australia since we’ve opened our doors and we believe he’ll be very attractive to our market,” Spendthrift Australia General Manager Garry Cuddy said.

“It all starts with his two-year-old form. Bolt d’Oro is widely regarded as one of the best American two-year-old’s of the last decade, winning a pair of respected Group 1’s in very fast times and dominating fashion.

“He is by a proven outcross sire in Medaglia d’Oro, who needs little introduction here when it comes to his ability to sire high-class two-year-olds, and he is completely free of Danehill or Danzig blood.

“Bolt d’Oro established himself as one of the most popular first-season stallions in the United States this year. We very much look forward to being able to show him to our breeders.”

Bolt d’Oro opened his juvenile career with three victories, including back-to-back Group 1 wins.

After winning on debut at Del Mar, he was pitched in at the top level and handled the challenge with aplomb by claiming the Group 1 Del Mar Futurity over 1400 metres.

In his third start, Bolt d’Oro captured Santa Anita’s Group 1 Frontrunner Stakes by 7 and three-quarter lengths, establishing himself as the only multiple Group 1 winning two-year-old colt from his crop in North America.

In his first start at three, he won Santa Anita’s Group 2 San Felipe Stakes before finishing runner-up to subsequent Triple Crown winner Justify (USA) (Scat Daddy {USA}) in the Group 1 Santa Anita Derby.

A US$630,000 Saratoga Select yearling, Bolt d’Oro is out of the multiple stakes-producing mare Globe Trot (USA) (AP Indy {USA}).

She also produced the multiple stakes winner and Group 2 performer Sonic Mule (USA) (Distorted Humor {USA}).

Globe Trot won three times up to a mile and is a daughter of the two-time Group 2 Turfway Breeders’ Cup winner Trip (USA) (Lord At War {Arg}) and the family of the multiple Group 1 winner Zensational (USA) (Unbridled’s Song {USA}).

With his pair of Group 1 wins, Bolt d’Oro retired to stud as Medaglia d’Oro’s most accomplished two-year-old colt ever in the Northern Hemisphere.
