A quartet of Victorian breeding industry operators lead to the win of two year-old filly Fish River (Canford Cliffs) at Vaal in South Africa last week.

The Canford Cliffs filly is trained by one of South Africa’s best in Mike de Kock and won by three and a half lengths over 1000 metres in her second start.

She was bred by Melbourne businessman, media identity and racing enthusiast Peter Maher. He bred the mare to Blue Gum Farm shuttle sire Canford Cliffs in 2013.

The filly was then bought by TBV member and Victorian based bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills at the 2015 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $60,000.

Placed in the care of Rosemont Stud, she was prepared for the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale where she was bought by South Africa’s Form Bloodstock for $130,000.

Fish Creek’s dam, Zabeea (Exceed and Excel) is out of dual Group 3 winner Arrabea and has since been sold by Peter Maher.

Nagambie’s Limerick Lane bred a Starspangledbanner filly out of Zabeea in 2015 which is being offered through the Aquis Farm draft as Lot 586 at this week’s Magic Millions sale.
