A record number of weanlings have been catalogued for next month’s Inglis Great Southern Sale.
This is the weanling sale where the likes of recent Australasian Oaks Sopressa, Hong Kong Group 1 winning star Mr Stunning, triple Group 1 winner Mongolian Khan and Paddy Payne’s Group winning warrior Widgee Turf were all bought. Other recent graduates include black-type winners Take Pride, I’m Wesley, Benz and Kiwi Ida.
In total, 991 entries have been received for the sale at Oaklands Junction, which will now run for an extended five days (June 17-21) as a result of the larger catalogue. Included are a record 571 weanlings (up from 465 last year) and nearly 300 broodmares.
The weanling draft includes progeny by leading sires such as I Am Invincible, Written Tycoon, Sebring, Exceed And Excel, Lonhro, Medaglia d’Oro, Zoustar, Pierro and Fastnet Rock.
Leading Victorian sires such as Magnus and Reward For Effort, leading first season sire Fighting Sun and leading second season sire Americain are all represented.

Inglis says the Great Southern Sale has become a proven hunting ground for pinhookers with the 2017 sale in particular throwing up some strong results.
A Zoustar x Snow Blitz filly purchased for $130,000 at Great Southern before was on sold for $650,000 as a yearling at Karaka; while a Starcraft x Mrs Bradbury colt which was a $30,000 Great Southern weanling buy was sold at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $340,000.
Last year, Swettenham Stud (with a More Than Ready colt) and Bombora Downs (Written Tycoon colt) both sold weanlings for a sale record price of $310,000.
Leading Victorian stud Woodside Park will offer a quality unreserved draft of 41 Lots at the sale including weanlings by the likes of Written Tycoon, Zoustar, Tavistock, Rich Enuff and Super One.
Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian was proud of the catalogue that had been collated.
“Breeders from around Victoria and from interstate have supported Great Southern with quality drafts,’’ Vivian said.
“It is exciting to know that such a substantial offering or quality weanlings will be on offer and I am confident there will be many pinhooking and racetrack success stories graduating from the 2018 sale.’’
