RETURN ON INVESTMENT – VICTORIA’S POINT OF DIFFERENCE
As reported recently the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale recorded some outstanding results for Victorian breeders, who dominated all the key performance indicators at the sale.
Victorian stallions also performed particularly well across the four days with Eliza Park resident Shinzig selling one yearling for a price that was sixteen times his service fee, a result that will no doubt have breeders thinking carefully when deciding on their matings for the 2011 season, or at least you would hope so.
A close look at the results from the Inglis Premier Sale show that Victorian stallions provided their breeders with an excellent return on investment and in stark contrast there were some stallions that reside north of the border that didn’t achieve a similar result, including Encosta de Lago, Redoute’s Choice and Rock of Gibraltar, which all averaged significantly lower than the 2008 fees they demanded.
It’s not just at the service fee level that the Victorian breeding industry offers investors significantly better value but also the cost to produce a yearling here is lower than over the border further adding currency to the pockets of the breeder.
