Oakford Thoroughbreds have confidence ahead of the Gold Sale with their draft of nine yearlings. Earlier on in the year there was much anticipation with new style of sales being held online, however recent results have proved that buyers are still in the market for quality horses.

The highlight of the draft is a lovely Frosted filly with an attractive pedigree to accompany her. ‘She is lovely filly with a very nice pedigree and I believe she should be one of the highlights in the sale.’ Remarked Brian manager of Oakford Thoroughbreds.

An eye-catching yearling of the draft is the Sports Edition colt out of the mare Barrett’s Mark. ‘It may not on paper look as good as it should as his half-brother has won three out four races and was second in the other race with recently been sold to Hong Kong for $500,000. This particular colt for anyone who wants to spec a horse is well worth looking at as he is a lovely big horse.’

The Extreme Choice is another lovely filly in the draft with a good pedigree. ‘For anyone looking for a filly in that category, she won’t let you down.’

Brian is taking a flexible approach to the sale by not holding big reserves as believes buyers are still active in the market. ‘During these uncertain times these horses won’t have big reserves on them at this sale from our draft. I hope people who can come and see the horses will come and inspect. Let’s hope that we can get something out of this difficult time.

Earlier on in the year Brian had large concerns if any sales or racing was even able to go ahead with the restrictions that were put in placed due to COVID 19 but has recently been encouraged with sales results. ‘I was very worried early on when the Gold Sale was cancelled along with Easter Sale I had big concerns. The online sales and recent Easter and Scone sale I believe was very encouraging. The online sale of racehorses I believe have been very strong. There are still people who want to participate in the industry and this is the last opportunity for an untried yearling. I believe there will be a reasonably strong market for the right horses.’

Due to technology the ability for videos and photos of the yearlings have made the accessibility for an online auction much more effective. ‘Oakford Thoroughbreds will be providing videos and photos of their draft. For anyone unable to get out to the sale complex, agents will be available to give detailed information of the horses. From what I have seen bidding online is just like bidding in the sales ring.’
