Nostradamus weanlings foresee future success

Rosemont Stud sire Nostradamus

Having been Victoria’s most popular first season sire in 2016, it is no surprise to see a 15 strong line-up of Nostradamus weanlings at next week’s Inglis Great Southern Sale.

Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen couldn’t be happier with the quality of weanlings he and his clients are presenting…although he is not surprised.

“We saw Nostradamus as a precocious, fast, speed-type that performed on the track the way he looked, and with his half-brother Star Witness winning a Blue Diamond, it added to our confidence that he was what the Australian market looks for in a stallion,” Mithen said.

“It’s encouraging that both sales companies that have visited the farm looking at his progeny going forward, have reported positively about the type he is leaving on the ground, which is uplifting coming from independent appraisals.”

“A Group 1 win is the only thing missing from a near perfect profile and with luck not going his way in running, it will not stop him leaving future Group 1 winners on the ground.

A key element to the young sire’s will no doubt be the quality of his rights holders which include Musk Creek Farm, Glentree, Princeton Thoroughbred Stud, Dorrington Farm, Saconi Thoroughbreds, Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm, Hollylodge Thoroughbreds and Oakford Thoroughbreds.

“The Victorian breeding industry needs people to come together to push our own wears, to promote and support our stallions, and this is an exact example of that happening at this sale,” Mithen said.

Also among that group of top notch Victorian breeders is Sally Watkins’ Willaroon Thoroughbreds which will offer one of the highlight Nostradamus weanlings.

Lot 412 is from Red Ransom mare Red Rapture and is half-sister to the Levi Kavanagh trained Group 3 placed, multiple city winning Soho Ruby.

“It’s brilliant to see such a great example presented by Sally,” Mithen said.

“It is also worth highlighting the Francesca Belle filly. She looks like a colt, being a big, strong, forward girl, for clients GB Thoroughbreds’ Daniel Gangi and Simon Bilalis, who also have a breeding right in the sire.

“Michael Christian (Saconi) is also offering a very nice colt out of She’s Pretentious, who is a half to Unpretentious, from a lovely black type family. He is a smashing sort and will receive compliments from the pinhook market who are after a good payday.”

Nostradamus stands at Rosemont Stud in 2018 for $8,800 (inc. GST). For pedigree advice or more information, contact Anthony Mithen on 0413 486 767 or amithen@rosemontstud.com.au.
