It has been a super start to the new racing season for Larneuk Stud’s young stallion O’Lonhro, a run of success that has even stud owner Neville Murdoch a little bit chuffed!

The record-breaking son of the great Lonhro was represented by an extra smart daily double recently.

Debutant King Of The Ark created a big impression at Geelong with the Vincent Malady trained four-year-old green but strong to the line in a 1000m maiden.

In his wake he left the odds-on favourite Lionhearted, a Group 2 placed blue-blooded colt (Fastnet Rock – Scandinavia).

“He looks promising,” Vincent Malady said, adding that he has only had the bay in his care for six weeks.

Jockey Damian Lane was also happy, “..obviously he has got good ability and he is only going to improve, all the signs are good.”

A home-bred for Howard Simpson, King Of The Ark is a son of the two times winning Danetrice mare Samurtriark.

Later in the day another talented O’Lonhro four-year-old was in winning form at Canberra with Vella Lonchick storming home from the rear in a 1200m benchmark contest.

Trainer George Vella and jockey Jay Ford agree that she is ready for a crack at stronger company with a trip to Sydney on the cards.

The O’Lonhro mare has always shown plenty of ability, having won well as a juvenile but unfortunately for connections she fractured her wither and required a long process of recuperation.

Other recent winners by the Larneuk based sire include O’Lonh Star at Devonport, The Big Oh at Cowra and Big Phil at Sale.

Aside from O’Lonhro’s hot run on the track he also had a son in the news with the Alderson bred and trained O’Lonera – the winner of three in a row at Caulfield – taking out the prestigious title of VOBIS Horse Of The Year recently at the Racing Victoria annual awards night.

Larneuk stands O’Lonhro alongside Ilovethiscity who has made a most encouraging start with his first crop and the VOBIS Sires nominated Cluster who proved popular with breeders – his first foals already impressing.
