Kuroshio off to a flying start in Europe

Darley Northwood sire Kuroshio

Darley Northwood based Kuroshio shuttled one season to Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire back in 2015 and his first northern hemisphere runners are now making huge strides as they follow in the footsteps of their speedy sire.

Kuroshio’s first European crop are now two and as the northern hemisphere flat season ramps up for the summer, the son of Exceed And Excel is certainly making his presence felt with an outstanding 46% winners to runners – a figure that cannot be matched by any other European first-season sire.

From a small but select crop, Kuroshio has now notched up five winners from 11 runners and sits behind only his paternal half-brother Bungle Inthejungle bettering this number of winners.

In the last 12 days, Kuroshio has added three new winners, most notably Kurious, who booked her ticket to Royal Ascot with a convincing win at Sandown (UK) on 7 June.

On Monday, his son Dunkerron won a 1,200 metre contest at Windsor by three and a quarter lengths and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Earlier in May, Kuroshio filly Daphina – who won at the first time of asking – added valuable Black Type to her record when finishing a close third in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York.

Kuroshio was himself a superb juvenile, winning the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes early in his two-year-old season, before landing the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude. He went on to better his older sprinting rivals in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Kuroshio stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $5,500 inc GST. He, like all other Victoria-based Darley stallions, is VOBIS Sires nominated.
