Promising Hesket Bloodstock homebred Poseidon’s Pool made it two wins in as many starts when saluting at Morphettville on Saturday for champion trainer Darren Weir.
Bred at Yungaburra in the Macedon Ranges, the colt was a debut winner at Ballarat on July 13 and then kept the good work going to post his second success with a slick win in the 1050 metre juvenile contest on the weekend.
Poseidon’s Pool settled behind the leader White Kaps, before jockey John Allen switched him into the clear halfway down the straight. The colt responded well, kicking into top gear to find the line strongly to win by a length.
No doubt a stakes win during the upcoming Spring Racing Carnival is on the cards for the well-related colt.
Poseidon’s Pool is a son of Pierro and is out of the Exceed and Excel mare Kulgrinda.
She too raced in the Contract Racing lime green, gold and purple colours worn by her son. Under the care of Peter Moody, Kulgrinda won four stakes races including the Group 3 Irwin Stakes at Morphettville. She amassed prizemoney in excess of $554,000.
Kulgrinda has had two filly foals since Poseidon’s Pool and was mated to Darley Northwood’s Street Boss last year.
Hesket Bloodstock is a joint breeding operation of David and Jenny Moodie and Ashley Hardwick.
