The Inglis Melbourne Premier has long been the showcase for Eliza Park International, and the leading stud farm will again field a classy line-up of 53 yearlings by 34 of the nation’s pre-eminent stallions.

The 2016 Premier also marks the launch of the first yearlings by EPI’s exciting stallion, Squamosa, a blindingly fast son of Not A Single Doubt, who was unbeaten at 2, a Group winner at 3 and broke the race record when second in the G1 Golden Rose.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Squamosa (pictured) also won the time honoured June Stakes by 5 lengths against the older horses and recently retired jockey, Jim Cassidy, said he was “explosive”.

Lot 87 is one of three Squamosas in the EPI draft and is out of the prolific Lady of the Valley whose five runners to date are all winners, including the Group placed Itiswhatitis.

Squamosa stablemate, Magnus, who is in scintillating form leading into the Premier, has what is certain to be one of the most popular lots at Oaklands Junction, with Lot 283 being the first foal of Street Cry mare, Prospect Street, a half sister to Magnus’ 5-time stakes winner, Platinum Kingdom.

It certainly wouldn’t be a Premier without a solid presence of youngsters by 8-time Victorian.

Champion Sire, Bel Esprit, and Lot 348 is a full brother to Flemington stakes winner, Silver Bullion, and two other winners. Bel Esprit has 18 yearlings up for grabs in ’16.

Australia’s perennial champ, Fastnet Rock, has a strong representation too and Lot 394, will garner a lot of respect, particularly as this cracking type hails from a rich family with plenty of black type from both sides of the Atlantic.

EPI has just the one Lonhro in the sale (Lot 39) but sometimes one is all you need when this colt is the first foal of stakes horse, Happy Hussy, a close relation to Champion sprinter and G1 Golden Shaheen Stakes winner Sterling City.

There’s a very good reason why Sebring is one of the most sought out stallions in the sale ring and Lot 513 won’t do his reputation one bit of harm, given that he is out of the multiple stakes winner Coniston Gem, who has produced two recent Magnus winners in Magnagem and Inner City Girl.

It’s certainly shaping up to be a busy sale for the EPI crew.

Eliza Park International is based at Barn G on the Oaklands Junction complex with inspections commencing at 9am on Tuesday 23 February.
