Devils Pinch owns a turn of foot that will propel him to Saturday wins in Melbourne.
The Equiano three year-old produced burst of acceleration that took him to a clear-cut victory at Sale on Sunday, January 24. He had won on debut at Pakenham in August and maintained a perfect first-up record in the in the Laugh @ Life Hcp (1200m).
The Peter Moody trainee started a $2.40 favourite after some first-rate trials and there’s better wins ahead after his two-length victory over Roman Fizz (Magnus) and Caspian (Stratum).
Moody knew Devils Pinch had ability from the outset and the Caulfield trainer purchased his yearling sister by Equiano from Swettenham Stud at the 2015 Melbourne Premier.
Their dam Miss Shakira (Snippets) delivered another Equiano colt in August. The mare is owned by UK stud Newsells Park and she has also foaled Adelaide stakes winning sprinter Tropic Thunder (More Than Ready).
Swettenham Stud shuttler Equiano (Fr) topped the English second-season table with the winners of 64 races in 2015 and he’s a Top 10 second-season stallion in Australia with 13 individual winners this season.
In Singpoare on Sunday, Equiano 3yo gelding Be Bold was just beaten in his debut overseas. He previously raced (and won) for Peter Moody’s stable as Best Bold.
There are 7 Equiano yearlings nominated for the 2016 Melbourne Premier and Swettenham Stud’s colt from Flying Spice (Lot 576) is a half-brother to the dam of Del Prado who was placed in the VOBIS Gold Star at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
