Darley Victoria freshman Skilled has five yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale on the back of Little Elsa who opened his account at Elwick last month.

A colt from Adelaide stakes winner Swooper (Lot 386) is first under the hammer and his family has received a couple of black-type updates courtesy of Son Of Maher. The Kiwi three year-old was runner-up in the G1 Levin Classic last month and then won the LR Dunedin Guineas on February 6.

Skilled is by Danehill’s Champion Australian son Commands from G2 Sandown Guineas winner Dextrous (Quest For Fame). He was a three-time winner as a juvenile capping the season with a Group 1 victory in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. The winning time of 1:36.29s was the second fastest by a colt since the race was first run over a mile in 1972.

He returned at three and was headed in the shadows of the G1 Randwick Guineas by Ilovethiscity. That was one of six stakes placings during the season before he was retired to Darley’s Victorian base at Northwood Park.

Darley Victoria stallion Helmet had 26 first-crop yearlings average $93,192 at the 2015 Melbourne Premier and he has 33 lots entered this year.

Reset (Zabeel) is another Darley Victoria stallion with yearlings for sale at Oaklands. His filly from Medician Star (Lot 186) is being offered by Nagambie-based Basinghall Farm and is a half-sister to Moonee Valley Group 3 winner Galaxy Pegasus.

Fellow Darley sire Domesday (Red Ransom) is also represented at Melbourne Premier and among his entrants is the three-quarter sister to Flemington stakes winner Backgammon (Lot 591).
