Commanding Dash gave Camperdown based part-owner Barry Phillips his first ever winner on Wednesday evening.
The Dash For Cash mare powered her way to an impressive half-length victory in the Electro Rewind Plate (1200m) in Launceston. Phillips reared the grey from a weanling and found it hard to contain his emotions when she delivered on the promise shown as a youngster.
“It’s everything I thought it would be and then some,” Phillips said as tears flowed. “We had high hopes for her early on but she wasn’t ready as a two-year-old so we just had to wait.”
Commanding Dash (4m Dash for Cash – Mrs Commands by Commands) is the first foal of an unraced mare related to stakes winners Handsome Ransom (G3 Black Opal Stakes) and Danajaya (LR Flemington Roses St).
Phillips bought her for just $1,500 from Northern Lodge Stud at the 2012 Inglis Great Southern Foal Sale.
“This mare has been so close to winning with seconds at her last two starts,” trainer John Blacker said. “It was her turn tonight and she was strong on the line.”
Commanding Dash was initially trained by Darren Weir for placings at Pakenham and Geelong before shipping across Bass Strait.
She is by former Swettenham Stud sire Dash For Cash and Northern Lodge has sent her dam Mrs Commands to Blue Gum Farm in recent years for a 2yo colt and yearling colt Turffontein.
