Leeanne Smith (left) and her Bucklee Farm sale team.

Leeanne Smith puts her heart and soul into everything she does. Her draft of 17 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Gold Yearling sale is no different.

When asked about her draft, Leeanne enthused, “Originally when I had my draft targeted towards the sale in April, I absolutely loved every single one of them. I still do, even three months on!”

Leeanne’s draft is a diverse draft with something to attract every trainer. Describing the fillies in her draft as ‘nicely bred fillies, which you could breed on with’ and her colts as ‘having lovely conformation and are well structured,’ it is a no brainer that you would organise to inspect her draft, located at her Greta West property.

“I am very excited about the draft that I have catalogued for the Inglis Gold sale. When buyers come to see them, they really will be impressed,” Leeanne enthused.

It was hard for Leeanne to choose only a few yearlings to talk about from her draft, given how she loves them all equally.

However, she mentioned that lot 193, a Manhattan Rain colt out of Streghetta was worth a look. The family features stakes winner Lucky Diva, who has won over $569,000 in prizemoney and has produced the Henry Dwyer trained Ms Catherine, Spirit of Westbury, Gina Lollawitcha and Duke of Westbury.

Leeanne describes this colt as, ‘a very balanced, ready to run colt.’

“He was always going to be an early type, he is strong and precocious. If buyers are looking for a horse to send to the ready to run sales, he is the one to come and inspect,” Leeanne said.

The other colt which Leeanne has described as one to inspect is the Turffontein out of Vegeta.

“While he is a late foal, he is very neat and correct. He is a lovely walker and he is a half- brother to galloper Vegan,” she said.

Leanne also mentions lot 112, “The Fighting Sun out of Pure Excellence was a well reared colt thanks to his breeders and is very precocious.”

Leeanne also has yearlings’ by Victorian sires such as a Rich Enuff filly (lot 414), who only recently acquired his first stakes winner with Plutocrat taking out the Tatt’s QLD RC Winning Edge Stakes, a Puissance de Lune filly (lot 146) who has also had two stakes, winners, to date with Chantrea recently taking out the Belmont Stakes.

Leeanne also has a soft spot for a daughter of Trust in a Gust, who Leeanne bred, foaled and raised herself. The filly out of mare Canhill, is a half-sister to Free to Move, who is trained by Kasey Keys and recently came second in the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem at Swan Hill over 1300 metres.

“She is a very correct filly and already has a powerful hind. Her half-brother placed in the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem and a trainer that is looking for a filly who will step out and give it her all, will find this in her.”

The majority of Leeanne’s draft is nominated for VOBIS, except for the Myboycharlie x Up Against It, Real Impact x Vitner (eligible for category B), Spill the Beans x Topshopper.

She also has a supplementary lot which is lot 466, Master of Design x Stagerush filly.
