Darley’s first season stallion, the former Champion sprinter Brazen Beau, has got his stud career off to a spectacular start with the victory of Tassort at in the Golden Gift at Rosehill over 100 metres.
Ridden by James McDonald, Tassort was positioned behind the leader in a small field and only obtained galloping room at the 200m, at which point he exploded to the lead.
Only the fourth Brazen Beau two-year-old to go to the races and his sire’s first winner, the regally-bred Tassort exploded in his debut to dominantly claim the win by over five lengths.
Darley Victoria’s General Manager, Andy Makiv couldn’t be happier, naturally upbeat about the very promising blue-blooded juvenile.
“It’s been a positive year for Brazen Beau. He finished leading first-season sire by average, at the yearling sales and to now have the Golden Slipper favourite is very exciting,” Makiv said.
Tassort is the fifth foal to race, and fifth to win, from the brilliant producing Exceed And Excel mare Essaouira, the dam of the Alizee and Darley stallion Astern.
“Tassort’s win was significant for his sire, but too for his dam Essaouira (Exceed And Excel) who has produced Australian Group 1 winners Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) and Alizee (Sepoy). Essaouira has been covered by Sepoy again this season,” Makiv said.
Brazen Beau established himself as the champion sprinter of his generation in Australia, winning twice at Group 1 and twice at Group 2. He was also second in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
