O'LONHRO RETIRED TO LARNEUK STUD

Renowned for his eye for a stallion, Neville Murdoch is delighted to announce the arrival of O'Lonhro to his Euroa property for the 2010 breeding season.

Due to arrive at Euroa in three week’s time, the striking dark brown four-year-old is built very much in the mould of his sire who last spring was one of Australia’s most popular stallions – serving a book of 212 mares.

The sire of ten stakes winners including the Gr.1 winning in-form Australian Guineas favourite Denman, Lonhro has proven a sensation in recent months – since the start of the year his progeny winning no less than 28 races.

And O’Lonhro is one of his best – a $220,000 Magic Millions yearling who quickly struck form, overcoming a troubled run at his Canterbury debut to win by an easy 1½ lengths.

Next time out too strong for subsequent AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor at Rosehill, O’Lonhro – a member of the Hawkes stable as was his sire before him – enjoyed a break and was back bigger and stronger next time in.

Second to Swift Alliance at the start of his second campaign, he then took on the older horses in the Gr.2 Warwick Stakes – finishing a close second to Trusting with the Gr.1 winners Mr Baritone and Racing To Win third and fourth.

All the fitter, O’Lonhro then took on some smart ones in the Gr.2 Chelmsford Stakes – winning that 1600m event in comprehensive style. How apt he win that race – his sire also successful in it – too strong in 2002 and 2003.

Retired to stud in 2004, Lonhro has excelled at stud. To date he has sired 104 winners from his 177 starters – a 58.8% winners-to-runners strike rate which is high for a third season sire.

And he is passing on his class and turn of foot – Denman a star in the making whilst the likes of Deer Valley, Demerit and exciting two-year-old Secession also look well above average.

Standing at 16.2hh, O’Lonhro is very much like his dad – muscular and strong with a commanding presence. And he has depth to his dam line as well, being a son of the high class racemare Mamzelle Pedrille.

The winner of 11 races – three at Group level and four at Listed level, she has proven a wonderful broodmare – to date producing five winners. And she has two promising Lonhros to come.

Mamzelle Pedrille is one of seven winners (from as many to race) for her dam, the multiple city winner Sister Pedrille – great grandam of the Gr.3 winning speedster I Am Invincible. This is a prolific winning family – O’Lonhro’s first four dams producing 25 runners – 19 winners of 74 races.

Not only is it a prolific family, but an historic one, its members including the Gr.1 winners Innesfell (VRC Oaks), Taramoa (Australian Cup), Electro (Sydney Cup) and the legendary Flight – dual W.S Cox Plate winner. Ancestress of this family is the famed matriarch Chelandry whose descendants include the successful stallions Zeditave, Heroic, Wrack, Jetball, Never Say Die, Magpie, Bellotto, Pitskelly, Shadeed, Clarion, Traghetto, Forty Niner and High Chaparral.

O’Lonhro’s dam sire Zoffany also lends strength to his pedigree – the triple Gr.1 winner being a successful sire of 19 stakes winners with an outstanding 71.1% winners-to-runners strike rate. And he has fared well as a broodmare sire also, his daughters to date producing 13 stakes winners.

The introductory service fee for O’Lonhro will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, for further details contact:
