NIELLO'S DAUGHTER IMPRESSES AT THE VALLEY Whilst the feats of Lonhro are being recognised far and wide at the moment his younger brother Niello continues to show his class as an emerging stallion. The Chatswood Stud resident was represented at Moonee Valley yesterday by the Mick Kent trained Ipioga, which was looking for her first win after two consecutive placings under lights at the Valley in recent weeks. Ridden by top hoop Craig Williams he let the filly settle behind the slow pace before asking her to improve from the 400m and overhaul easing favoutire Chilled By Choice. Kent said Ipioga has “thrived in the last six or eight weeks” with the filly’s constitution inspiring confidence the filly could handle a step up to stakes class during her three-year-old season. “She’s done a great job,” Kent said. “It’s only her first preparation but she’s always shown at home she’s got the parameters to be a stayer. “Craig (Williams) gave her a lovely ride today. He waited that little bit and that made all the difference. “There’s some nice three-year-old fillies’ races around. She’s handled the wet now which is something added to her.” Mick Kent has was positive in his assessment of the blue blood stallions prosepcts at stud: “I’ve got a couple of them and I really like them,” Kent said. “They’re much more (financially) viable than the Lonhro's. “The Lonhro's took their time and the Niellos might be the same.” Niello's oldest progeny are 3 year olds so exxpect to hear more about his progeny over the coming months.
