UNHERALDED HEMINGWAY CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Malcolm Boyd from Bullarook Park Stud, home of Hemingway, often ponders over the decisions of broodmare owners who seem to overlook the virtues of his unheralded farm resident Hemingway.

Hemingway was unbeaten at his 2 race starts, which included the a Listed win in Great Britain and hails from a sire line that has produced the emerging staying stallion Golan and Group 1 winner Spectatorial. His female line is also littered with quality progeny, with Second Empire and Ihitiram amongst the stakes class performers thrown by his dam Welsh Love.

Saturday at Moonee Valley he again showed his worth as a stallion after Belleza Veloz made it 5 wins from 14 starts.

Bred by the McCarthy's from Greta West Stud, the 5yo mare will now look to add to ther stakes placing in the Autumn with a win in a Mares race in the not too distant future.

At Sandown last Wednesday Hemingway again showed why breeders need to take a close look at this fellow after the Enver Jusufovic trained Briefed stormed home from the tail of the field to win impressively at his first start back from a spell.

Briefed was an impressive winner on debut at Sale last season and then continued his two-year-old campaign with an eye-catching third to Imacruiser at Caulfield before running fifth in stakes grade at Flemington.

He was tuned up for last week’s victory with a Cranbourne trial win and he scored in the style of a horse capable of progressing through his grades after sitting well off the speed in the 1000m event.

Briefed is from the winning Marauding mare Enchant, who in turn is a sister to the G2 placed Listed winner Empower.

His ability to throw winners hasn’t been lost on the shrewdest of breeders however, with his 2008 book almost double that of the season that produced Briefed.

Hemingway’s 2009 fee is $3300 offering broodmare owners a real chance to get a quality racehorse with Stakes class ability.
